Defining Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think, learn, and make decisions. These systems can perform tasks that typically require human cognition — such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation.
Types of AI
Narrow AI (ANI) is designed for a specific task, like voice assistants or image recognition. It's the only type of AI that exists today.
General AI (AGI) would match human-level intelligence across all domains. This remains theoretical and is the subject of intense research.
Super AI (ASI) would surpass human intelligence in every field. This is purely speculative at this point.
How AI Works
Modern AI systems learn from data rather than following explicit rules. They use statistical models to find patterns in large datasets, then apply those patterns to new situations. This approach — called machine learning — has driven the current AI revolution.
AI in Everyday Life
You interact with AI daily: smartphone autocorrect, Netflix recommendations, email spam filters, GPS navigation, and voice assistants like Siri and Alexa are all powered by AI algorithms.
